At the foot of the Ludza castle mound, at 27a Tālavijas Street, the Ludza Crafts Center—established more than 20 years ago and a recipient of the “Latvian Heritage” award—invites you to discover the stories of ancient Latgalian life, traditions, and crafts. In the traditional gathering room (Suprātku istaba), a knowledgeable guide dressed in traditional costume will share ancient tales and invite you to try your hand at ancient crafts. Masterclasses are available for groups and families upon prior reservation. The gathering room also offers a story and exhibition on ancient Latgalian and ethnographic national costumes of the Ludza district.
Right nearby, guests are invited to taste locally brewed beer in the new beer tasting hall and learn about Latgalian brewing traditions through a story and a short film (ph. +371 26655551).
In the shop at 42 Baznīcas Street, you can purchase crafts by local artisans (ceramics, textiles, woven goods, forged metalwork, handicrafts, wooden products, jewelry, etc.), as well as order national costumes from all regions of Latvia, along with linen and woolen clothing.
Tour groups with prior bookings and visitors during Home Cafe Days can enjoy traditional Latgalian food and drink at “Latgaļu kukņa” (Latgalian Kitchen), a member of the Latgale Culinary Heritage network.
