In the village of Pasiene, close to Latvia’s eastern border, Vitālijs Mežeckis has created a private collection in his home, inviting visitors to reflect on the importance of their roots, family heritage and native place.
Inspired by a strong sense of patriotism, Vitālijs has created a wide variety of works: wood carvings, paintings, architectural models made from matchsticks, and mosaics crafted from many different materials.
The collection includes Latvian traditional symbols, representations of the tree as a bridge between the past and the future, churches, landscapes and portraits, as well as the Latvian national anthem presented in a framed artistic composition. Each work has its own story, and the artist is happy to explain the meaning and message behind it.
Living in a rural area so close to the national border gives particular significance to an awareness of one’s roots, responsibilities, values and future.
Visits to the collection must be arranged in advance by calling +371 26841246 (Vitālijs Mežeckis).
